Born in Ireland, of a line tracing back to a natural son of Birna. She was her parents’ first child, and her mother died giving birth to the second—a boy who did not survive. In her youth, she defied normal gender roles in her tribe by spending more time competing against the boys in their games instead of joining the other girls in their play.
She was discovered by her parens when she was ten. She had rebelled against tradition enough through adolescence that the clan did not argue much when Coinín wanted to take her away for apprenticeship. She was more than happy to go, excited at the prospect of learning magic and the power it brings. She was trained in her parens’ covenant near Cork. Near the end of her apprenticeship, Bishop Aldin sent a group of priests and knights to investigate what he decided was a pagan cult at the site of the covenant. While they did not find the covenant itself, they did find village in which most of the covenfolk lived. A confrontation ensued in which the church force was repelled and a few members were killed. Among the deceased was a priest that was a nephew of Bishop Aldin. The resulting ire from the bishop led the covenfolk into hiding, but his vendetta against the magi (including Ursina) involved remains.
Ursina’s sept includes her parens (who is still a member of his original covenant) and another Bjronaer magus from (a covenant in central Ireland).
